A great time was had by the 7 competitors and their families the weekend of August 14th at the "2004 Lake Wenatchee Bake-athlon", hosted by Jay Bender and Marie Garret at their own little gravel pit rifle range near Plain, WA. The group all pitched in and set up early so we could get the race run before it got too much hotter. The thermometer in Dave Anana's car, which was parked in the shade, read 100 degrees as we departed from the site!

Returning to the air conditioned comfort of Jay's house, just two miles away, the gang feasted on BBQ chicken and other delicacies while sharing stories and generally having a good time. Cheezy, but cool, homemade trophies were awarded to the top three finishers in the men's and women's divisions, along with a special "Fleet Foot" award given to the person with the fastest running time (Who else but Dave Anana?).

If you couldn't make it this year, you missed a good time and we missed having you. This will likely take place next summer, as well, so plan on a camping trip to beautiful Lake Wenatchee State Park for the 2005 Bake-athlon! (It really wasn't too bad as we had shade, plenty of cold drinks, and had somewhere cool to go afterwards.) We'll see you all at the next event!
