We now have our Biathlon competitions for 2021 scheduled.

On the downside we will not be able to race at Stevens Pass due to Covid and Vail Resorts decision to allow no competitive events while the pandemic is on. However, we will be back to SPNC in 2022.

We have two weekends of competitions set and approved in Winthrop on the MVB range and McCabe Trails at Liberty Bell High School. In addition, MVB is planning to hold it's Sun-of-a-Gun biathlon, which will be a points race for the WBA. The schedule looks like this:

January 9th A modified Individual format competition, 12.5k men, 10k women and M4 men. Shorter youth and junior courses. Four shooting bouts (PPSS) and five skiing loops. No penalty loops.

January 10th A Super Sprint Format competition, 5k men, 4k women, M4 men and Juniors. Shorter youth courses. Four shooting bouts (youth may vary) and five skiing loops. Eight rounds per shooting bout. Penalty loops for misses after extra rounds are expended.

February 7th MVB Sun-of-a-Gun Biathlon. Format TBD by Methow Valley Biathlon. Race fees will be set by MVB, WBA members will get a $5 discount. This will be a WBA points competition. Due to a modification on how Methow Valley's Ski-to-the-Sun cross country ski race is being handled there is a possibility MVB will add a Saturday Biathlon on February 6th.

February 20 & 21 WBA points races, formats TBD.

WBA members and MVB members will receive the $5 member discount for all five scheduled races.

There will be modifications and adjustment made to protect competitors, volunteer and race officials health in this time of Covid-19. Please note we will be racing on Methow Valley School District property and they have a large say in Covid protections and protocols. The Covid protocols include:

Spectators: No spectators are allowed. However, each participant under 18 years of age is allowed to have one household member or coach who can help them with warm-up clothing, equipment, food and hydration at the race. These helpers are not allowed in the start or finish pen and are expected to maintain distance from others and wear a face covering at all times.

ALL registration will be handled online via Webscorer.

The WBA has appointed a Health Screening Supervisor.

All participants, volunteers and officials will be screened prior to entering the venue. The screening will include taking temperature via a forehead scanning thermometer and a few questions regarding symptoms and exposure.

Face masks will be required of everyone on site, except racers when they are competing. During the races competitors must wear their mask at the start line and after they cross the finish line. During the race they may remove the mask. All other times they must be masked.

The WBA cannot supply any bottled water or any other consumables.

The WBA is investing in equipment to sanitize the mats, rifle racks and other things prior to and during the races.

All races will be run in heats. We are restricted to ten competitors per heat. Each racer will be assigned their own lane for use in all shooting bouts.

Additional rifle racks and table will be brought to the range to facilitate loading and zeroing while keep social distancing.

Interval starts will be spaced at one minute between racers. Wave or Mass starts will be limited to ten racers (which fits with the limit of ten racers per heat). The Mass start line structure will be modified to enhance social distancing.

Racers will be seeded to try and eliminate as much passing as possible. Age groups will race together as much as possible.

There will be no post-race medal ceremonies. How medals are presented is being determined.

Race result will not be posted at the site, early results will be posted on Instagram and Facebook and as soon as practical posted on this website.

Anyone needing a USBA Safety Class will need to contact Bob Vallor (bob.vallor(at) before or as soon as they register for the races. Classes will be done on Zoom on the Friday evening before each race weekend, if needed.
